Neighborly Affection, #2

A safeword won’t save her from love.

After six months of cavorting in her neighbors’ bed, Alice admits signing the contract to be Henry’s sexual submissive is the best decision she’s ever made. He delivers on his promise to give her sexual satisfaction. But submitting to his dominance alongside his long-term lover shows her the sharp line between sex and love. Henry loves goofy, eager-to-please Jay. Neither man has promised to love her.

Hiding her feelings grows harder every night she spends with them. As they struggle with wounds old and new, her emotional turmoil threatens to shred their arrangement. Is it time to bow out before they show her the door? Or can a triangle be the shape of true love?

Crossing the Lines Neighborly Affection Book 2 edition by MQ Barber Literature Fiction eBooks

I do not hand out 5-star ratings often, but I believe this book deserves that, and more. This is the second book in the "Crossing the Line" series, and if you have not read the first book entitled "Playing the Game," I strongly suggest you read that one first. You need to understand the background of the main characters and how they began their relationship. (It is also available on Amazon.) I stumbled onto this author by accident. But after downloading that first book onto my Kindle, I quickly became a fan....and I anxiously awaited publication of this second book. M Q. Barber draws you into the lives of her main characters Henry, Jay, and Alice as they stumble through their growing physical as well as emotional attachment to each other. In the first book, Alice meets Jay and Henry on the day she moves into her small studio apt in Boston. They invite her to dinner, and watching the way these two guys interact with each other, it becomes obvious to Alice that they are gay. Both men are good-looking and she is attracted to them as well...but she knows nothing could come of that. After almost a year of being her friendly neighbors , they invite her to dinner one evening and surprise her by telling her that they are bi-sexual and would be very interested in having a relationship that would include her. It turns out that Henry is a Dominant and Jay is his submissive. Alice has to decide if she would be willing to be Henry's submissive as well. Book Two picks up where Book One leaves off. There is some minor BDSM involved in this story, but it is handled with taste, and the safety and well being of Alice and Jay are always Henry's prime concern. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the loving relationship develop between these three people, and couldn't wait for them to realize what was happening as well. If you enjoy reading about unconventional love, and if the characters in "50 Shades of Gray" drew you in, then I think you will enjoy these stories as much as I did. I highly recommend them, starting with the first book. I would have paid twice the amount gladly. Well worth the price.

Crossing the Lines Neighborly Affection Book 2 edition by MQ Barber Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

So what did I think about this book? I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. I can't get enough of Alice, Jay and Henry.

This is the sequel to Playing the Game. Where the first book for me was a happy book, where Alice join Jay and Henry in their every-other friday bed-activities, this book took me through several emotional stages - the happy, joyful, playful, hurting, teary and angry.

In this book you will get to know Alice, Jay and Henry on a more deeper level than in the first book. You will get to learn more about Jay and Henrys relationship, you will see Alice struggle with her emotions towards Jay and Henry. She is jealous after the kind of relationship she can see between Jay and Henry - the affection, tenderness, caring, devotion, passion and love. Is there room for Alice in Jay and Henrys relationship? Means Alice more to Jay and Henry than just 'playing games' every-other friday?

What will happen if she cross the line and ask Henry for more than just every-other friday? Will Henry extend their agreement to more time together or will he terminate their contract? And dare she ask for more?

ARC received, but I have still bought the book, it is THAT GOOD.
Big 5 stars for Barber again!!!!
In 'Playing the Game' (first in the series) she set the scene well. The characters, their dynamic and their developing relationship(s). So much so I could not wait to see where things lead in this book, and she did not disappoint.
As Alice and Henry's feelings grow you can actually FEEL their internal torments immensely and you are dying for them to both say what they really feel. It is a true surprise when Jay is the one who is most in tune and calls them out for being too much alike. It broke my heart at the thought that all could be lost.
It still bothered me that Henry treated them like children (again, Jay more so) but by the end of the book you understand why....from everyone's perspectives. Each Submissive has their own need and Henry is a worthwhile Dom! The visit to the BDSM club is a turning point with the 3 of them and how I viewed their interactions.
Once again I cannot wait for the next book.
I had so much more to say in my review but it would be a huge spoiler and I think you need to read this book to feel (and I mean feel) it for yourself.
I loved this book. This is Bk 2 and the story keeps getting better and better. The trio of new lovers grows continually in this book as Jay is hurt forcing Alice to spend more time with the guys and trying to find her place in the agreement. She goes back to her apartment only to find the power has gone out in a snowstorm. Instead of spending her week serrate from them she moves across the hall until the power comes back on. This leads to many hours in bed and Henry keeps then and us entertained in many ways besides sex. Alice has the best snowy Valentine's day ever and they grow more comfortably emotionally with each other. They have their first bondage scene as feelings deepen. Alice is in love with Henry and afraid to tell him, and she wants the relationship to be real. She has no idea how long he has plotted to get her to this level of commitment to him because he loves her too. The love scene when Henry returns from a solo visit to a sex club is WOW! ..........it's so wonderfully tender and emotionally fulfilling that Alice finally realizes that Henry loves her as well as Jay, and he fears losing both of them as he ages. Secure in their new closeness Henry takes them to his club where Alice and Jay have a run in with an old Dom named Cal. Before the night is done the trio is in turmoil and retreats to their apartment to soothe Jay's emotional breakdown. The long night ends with some satisfying conversations, new understandings, and a long term commitment that proves to Alice once and for all that she is loved. When Henry says Welcome home Alice........... I sighed and got teary. It's been a long, long, road for Alice and I'm happy for her. .......
